Whether you’re gathering around the breakfast table for a weekend brunch or treating yourself to a special morning meal, these waffles bring a little extra comfort to every bite.

Warm, satisfying, and deliciously versatile, they pair beautifully with both sweet and savory toppings, making them a breakfast favorite you’ll reach for again and again.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespooons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 3 tablespooons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups non-dairy milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/3 cup melted vegan butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • non-stick cooking spray
Instructions
  1. 1

Mix the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, sugar, and salt in a medium mixing bowl.

  2. 2

Stir in the milk, water, applesauce, melted butter, and vanilla until well incorporated. Don't over-mix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

  3. 3

Set it aside, and preheat your waffle iron.

  4. 4

Carefully open the preheated waffle iron and spray the top and bottom of the iron with a thin, even layer of nonstick cooking spray.

  5. 5

Add about 1/2 cup of the batter or the amount suggested by the manufacturer. Use a rubber spatula to spread the mixture to within 1/4 inch of the edge, then close the lid.

  6. 6
Two waffles in a waffle iron.
    1. Cook the waffles according to your waffle maker’s instructions, typically 3 to 5 minutes per waffle.
    2. Carefully open the waffle maker and check for doneness. If a waffle sticks, close the lid and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute before checking again.
    3. When fully cooked, the waffle should release easily from one side of the waffle maker.
    4. Use a fork to gently lift and remove it.
    5. Lightly coat the waffle maker with additional cooking spray as needed, and repeat until all of the batter has been used.
