Description

These Vegan Halloween Mummy Dogs are almost too cute to eat! Plant-based hot dogs are wrapped mummy-style in thin strips of crescent-roll dough, then baked until the “bandages” are puffed and golden. Add candy eyes or make your own with dots of mustard or ketchup to give each little mummy its own spooky personality.

Perfect as Halloween party food, a fun Halloween appetizer, or a kid-friendly Halloween dinner, these mummy dogs are simple enough for little helpers to join in the fun. Serve them with the ketchup-and-mustard spiderweb dipping sauce for an extra festive touch, then watch these playful mummies disappear from the platter.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°. Cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  1. Open the crescent rolls and unroll the dough, separating the triangles. Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 1/4-inch wide strips.

  1. Use the strips of dough to create the "bandages" by wrapping them, one at a time, around each hot dog. Crisscross them "mummy-style," leaving a 1/4- to 1/2-inch-wide opening on top of each dog; this is where you'll place the "eyes" after baking.

  1. Place each mummy dog on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12 to 14 minutes until the dough is golden brown.

  1. Remove the hot dogs from the oven and allow them to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before adding the eyes.

  1. Place a tiny dot of ketchup on the back of each "eyeball" and adhere them in the space left open at the top of each dog. If you're not using candy eyes, put a dot of mustard or ketchup on the hot dog in place of them.

  1. For the web-effect dipping sauce, fill a ramekin with ketchup and create two mustard circles on top, with a dot of mustard in the middle. Then, using the knife's edge and starting in the middle, draw the blade through each mustard line, half an inch apart, to create a "web" effect.
